live in close proximity to humans. They prefer to nest on human structures. In many folk tales, the stork figures as a bringer of happiness and new life. In the 1970s, the stork had all but disappeared from the Netherlands. Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers and together with the Vogelbescherming, the species has been prevented from becoming extinct as a breeding bird in the Netherlands. They did this through a rescue program with stork stations. In the meantime, the bird is no longer on the Red List, fortunately the stork is doing very well. The perfect gift for someone who is having a child.
