The bird house is cast of stoneware. The stoneware is baked to 1250 degrees, making the bird houses winter-proof. At the back is a large hole where you can hang it, but you can also clean it and take out the old nest. If the house still needs to be cleaned, you put it in the dishwasher and the house is clean for the new residents.
